Because of its international nature, Telethon for Christchurch is also designed to open up a major new source of funds for Christchurch Kiwis living overseas - inspiring them to work together with Kiwis at home, towards a common goal.
Please click attending if you'd love to help, from $2.00 to getting your whole company or school involved. Then invite everyone you know on Facebook and from your email database. Together we can make a real difference in the lives of those affected by this terrible disaster.
The broadcast would also be live streamed globally, allowing us to access the hundreds of thousands of New Zealanders living overseas who are feeling frustrated in their inability to do something to assist the New Zealand effort. In this sense, it truly would be a Global Telethon.
Funds collected would be managed by a charitable trust (The Telethon for Christchurch Trust) established by Lowndes Jordan and audited by Ernst & Young.
Dairy giant Fonterra will contribute $500,000 towards production and administration costs so that all other funds raised will go directly to the earthquake appeal. "We thought this was a great way to keep momentum going," Fonterra chief executive Andrew Ferrier said.
Money would be funneled directly to the PM's initiative, The Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.
Staff from CTV have asked to be involved and would form a core team of the telecast.
We believe the fundraising capacity of this Global Telethon will be in the tens of millions of dollars, bringing together as it does the compelling influence and fundraising capacity of all New Zealanders, both abroad and at home who are feeling frustrated that they cannot do more. More importantly this Global Telethon will help heal a nation
